Ethernet for Control Automation Technology  

Outstanding performance, flexible topology and simple configuration characterise EtherCAT (Ethernet for control automation technology), the real-time Ethernet technology from Beckhoff. EtherCAT sets new standards where conventional fieldbus systems reach their limits: 1000 distributed I/Os in 30 µs, almost unlimited network size, and optimum vertical integration thanks to Ethernet and internet technologies.

Principle of operation: With EtherCAT technology, Beckhoff overcomes the system limitations of other Ethernet solutions. The Ethernet protocol remains intact right down to the individual devices, i.e. down to the I/O terminals; no sub-bus is required.
XFC XFC | eXtreme Fast Control Technology: XFC represents a control technology that enables very fast and highly deterministic responses. The XFC communication is based on EtherCAT technologies.
EtherCAT-Klemmen EtherCAT Terminals: In analogy to the Beckhoff Bus Terminals, the EtherCAT Terminal system is a modular I/O system consisting of electronic terminal blocks. The EtherCAT protocol remains fully intact down to the individual terminal.
Safety over EtherCAT Safety over EtherCAT: In the interest of realising safe data communication for EtherCAT, the Safety over EtherCAT protocol has been disclosed.
